1997 Jose Oribe
Englemann Spruce soundboard
Brazilian Rosewood S/B
Mahogany neck w/Ebony reinforcements
Black Ebony fingerboard
Machines are bronze cast, 24k gold plated by Irvine Sloane
Finish: Body - catalyzed varnish; soundboard - french polished shellac
Scale: 664mm
Jose Oribe began making guitars in 1962, and from the beginning his guitars were masterpieces of technical execution, artistic design and flawless workmanship combined with spectacular wood selection and flawless finishing. Jose has published a book on his methods and making philosophy called “The Fine Guitar,” which I highly recommend as required reading for any interested in the luthier’s art. This exceptionally well preserved example from 1997 exemplifies Jose’s skill and attention to detail. This instrument is exceptionally player friendly, responding beautifully and effortlessly to tonal color shifts, dynamic range and cantabile treble lines. Basses are perfectly balanced with the trebles, and the instrument feels perfectly at home with any kind of music, a true universal tool for the musician. Over the years we have had several of these Oribe models pass through the shop, most in very heavily played condition. Far and away, this instrument is the best preserved, best sounding and best playing of any we have had the pleasure of playing. Jose’s instruments are not often encountered here in the USA, they are enormously popular in Japan, where the prices for models like this are astronomical.
Original case included.
