FRENCH POLISH CLASSES
FRENCH POLISH: START TO FINISH IN THREE DAYS
French polish classes for wood-workers of all skill levels.
Classes take place at the Bruné workshop, 800 Greenwood St.,
Evanston, IL 60201
Course instruction includes:
- Several methods of
preping surfaces for French polish
- How to make French polish
- Correct application of
French polish
- Buffing technique
- Care and restoration of
French Polish
- Hands-on experience with
some of the finest guitars in the R.E. Bruné Collection,
including Santos,
Barbero, Reyes, Garcia, Torres,
Buchet, Fleta, and other nineteenth century guitars.
Cost
of
course:
$750. A $150 deposit is required to hold space. Class
size is limited to 6 participants.
Materials provided by instructor:
- Linen
- Shellac
- Alcohol
- Fillers
- Glue
- Coarse Pumice
- Sandpaper
- Cheesecloth
- Olive oil
Materials
provided
by
course attendee:
- A dust mask
- Chemical gloves (preferably
thin neoprene, or Nitrile)
- A large bath towel
- Small, clean jar with a tight
lid, like a baby food jar
- Small medicine bottle
- Medium-sized work pieces of
spruce, cedar, rosewood, mahogany

- July 29-31, 2010;
- September 23-25, 2010
Thursday and Friday class
time is 6-9:30pm, with a half-hour break. Saturday class time is 1-4pm,
with a half-hour break.
2011 CLASS DATES
- January 14-15, 17, 2011
- March 17-19, 2011
LODGING AND ACCOMODATIONS
Lodging can be had at a nearby Best
Western, 1501 Sherman Ave.,
Evanston IL.
The hotel is less than two blocks
away from the Bruné shop, as well as less than two blocks
away
from the El-train, for a trip into
scenic down-town Chicago.
